10 Minute Meditations – 02 Rest

Meditation can be defined as the art of deep listening. Mindfulness Meditation in particular gives us the opportunity to connect with our mind and our body which allows us to become deeply aware of our physical and emotional state through mindful breathing. Meditation connects us with the present moment, which is the only moment we have. By focusing deeply on our breath, we can quiet the chattering mind and experience life as it is in this moment! Being with the breath allows us to transcend regretting the past or worrying about the future. Meditation takes discipline and personal courage. Like any art form, regular practice will lead us into a deeper experience, and our ability to quiet the mind will increase.

When we meditate, it is important to find a quiet space free from noise and distraction. I recommend using headphones to enhance the experience. We want to sit in a comfortable position that allows us to feel relaxed but still alert. Inevitably, our minds will wander, and thoughts will try to dominate our minds. Don’t fight the thoughts! Just be with them but don’t dwell on the thoughts. We can identify the thought but there is no need to judge the thought as “good” or “bad”. Meditation transcends the concept of “right” and “wrong”, “good” or “bad”. We recognize that the thought is there and then allow it to pass. Just allow the sound of the singing bowl to gently remind you to refocus your attention on your breath. We take deep breaths in through our noses, and we exhale powerfully out of our mouths. Try to take the deepest breath you can take, and when you exhale, empty all the air out of your lungs.

So now I invite you to begin your own journey through meditation. Peace be with you, my friends!
